You can find the carfax on nearly any car nowadays, and some sites already have the carfax looked up and ready for you at no additional cost!

The last time I looked, I found a volkswagen beetle convertible for sale through ebay and came up on a great bargain and got it for nearly half price of what it was really worth, so look hard, and look closely to what is out there.
