Insect Paintings Master White-stone (Qi Baishi, 1863-1957) is my
favourite Chinese painter. He became a carpenter at 14, and learned to paint by
himself. Until his forties, he traveled a lot to look for more inspirations. His
early work is more like traditional Chinese landscape paintings (www.the-gallery-of-china.com). Until
his late life, the art of Master White-stone focused on the portrayal of small animals
(eg. insects) in nature. I belive that his paintings well represent traditional
Chinese culture, but in a simple, folk and playful style. A style nobody else
achieved before.
